Junior forward Austin Gochneaur (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) was named Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday (Sept. 22) for his performance on the course and in the classroom. It is the junior's first career 'Scholar-Athlete of the Week' award. Â
Gochneaur earns the honor following a three point game against Western Michigan on Sunday, September 21 where he notched one goal and one assist for the Leathernecks. His goal would be the first strike of the game in the 14th minute on a heading attempt. Less than three minutes later, the Junior also scored an assist  on a pass to Mario Alvarez.
The goal and assist are Gochneaur's first of the season and third and second, respectively, in his career. He has helped the Leathernecks accumulate an overall record of 3-4-1 in 2014.
Gochneaur, an economics major, holds a GPA of 3.490.
