Redshirt-freshman quarterback Sean McGuire was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week for his performance last weekend as the Leathernecks rallied for a 37-30 overtime win at Indiana State. He was also rewarded by being named the Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

 

McGuire, making his first collegiate start, completed 29-of-44 passes for 332 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in the 37-30 overtime win at Indiana State. He also rushed for 28 yards (averaging 4.7 yards per carry) and scored a touchdown.

 

The Leathernecks were down by 17 early in the third quarter when he connected with Joey Borsellino on a 78-yard touchdown, the longest pass completion by Western in four years.

 

The rally was also the second-biggest comeback victory in program history.

McGuire carries a 3.45 cumulative GPA majoring in University Advising.
