Junior Diego Lopez has been named the Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday, November 2, for his efforts on the field  and in the classroom.
On Saturday, November 1, Lopez helped lead the Leathernecks to a 2-1 victory over IUPUI in the regular season finale for the men's soccer program. As Western honored its six seniors on Senior Day, it was Lopez who would start the Leatherneck scoring against the Jaguars.
In the 17th minute, Lopez received a through ball from Amadeo Carbo. One touch later, Lopez found his way into the box and beat the keeper to the far post to put Western ahead 1-0. Lopez would end the day with four shots,with two on goal. He now has two goals and three assists on the season.
Lopez, a native of Warsaw, Indiana, has also excelled in the classroom, as he maintains a 3.328 GPA as a Pre-Business Management major. Last season, Lopez was named to the Summit League Fall Academic Honor Roll.Â
