Western Illinois women's tennis player Courtney Lubbers (Wichita, Kansas/Bishop Carroll) has been named the Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week Monday (Feb. 23) for her performance on the court and in the classroom.Â
Lubbers and the women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Green Bay on Saturday (Feb. 21). Lubbers, competing in the No. 1 singles spot, Lubbers squared off against Stephanie Londre of Green Bay. The freshman picked up a straight-sets victory over Londre, 6-2, 6-3. Lubbers' victory helped the Leathernecks end a 63-match losing streak against Division I opponents.Â
Lubbers, majoring in pre-nursing, currently holds a 3.22 GPA.
