Senior Peyton Crosser was named the Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday, September 28, for her efforts in the classroom and on the volleyball court.
On Friday, September 25, Crosser and Leathernecks opened Summit League play with a five set victory over South Dakota in Vermillion. Western's win over the Coyotes was largely thanks to the play of the senior captain, as she continued her stellar senior season.
Crosser led Western on the night with a season-high 20 kills on a career-high 58 attacks. The native of Ottumwa, Iowa, also recorded a double-double on the night, as she tallied 16 digs on the night, the second-most in Crosser's career.
Crosser also excels in the classroom, as she maintains a 3.39 GPA while majoring in Marketing. She is set to graduate in May, 2016.
The Leathernecks are back in action on Friday, October 2, as the team opens up the home portion of Summit League play with a contest against Fort Wayne. The match, part of WIU's homecoming week activities, is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Brophy Hall.
