Maureen Johnson

Maureen Johnson was welcomed as assistant coach for Western Illinois volleyball, announced by the program on July 1, 2021.

Johnson returns to her home state of Illinois, being a Crystal Lake native. She most recently spent the 2020-21 season at Newberry College as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator of the volleyball team.

Before her stay in South Carolina, Johnson handled a similar assistant role with Marietta College volleyball from 2018-20. Aside from coaching and recruiting duties, she stayed occupied with tasks of team travel, players' academic progress, team social media presence, and budget areas.

An earlier two years (2016-18) saw Johnson act as the Director of Volleyball Operations at Northern Illinois. No stranger to coaching numerous college camps, she also has experience as a club coach -- having spent a year with the VC United Volleyball Club.

Johnson was a three-year starter at Ashland University (2011-15), where her squad advanced to the NCAA tournament on two separate occasions. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ashland in 2015 before completing a master's degree in Sport Management at Northern Illinois three years later.
