Biography
SOPHOMORE (2024): Appeared in 15 matches, starting in 13 of those matches... Recorded two shots, one of those being on goal against SIUE (Oct. 3)... Clinched a vital header goal against SEMO (Sep. 29) leading the Leathernecks to their first conference win... Played a season high of minutes in the 1-1 tie against SIUE (Oct. 3) and totaled 1,200 minutes on the season.
FRESHMAN (2023): Played in 11 total matches, and started in 8....Played the full 90 minutes in 5 of 8 starts....Recorded a shot attempt at Illinois State (Sept. 10)....Made 8 starts from Aug. 31 until Nov. 8, where she had a season-ending injury at Tennessee Tech....Played all 90 minutes and led Leathernecks to a clean sheet at Morehead State (Sept. 24).
PERSONAL: Ali Mathews has signed the dotted line and is officially a Leatherneck. A defender from Springfield, Illinois, Matthews was an Academic All-Conference selection in both soccer and basketball, and earned a spot on the All-State team in soccer while also being named on the Chicagoland All-State soccer team. Her most memorable moment as a soccer player came after scoring on a free kick from nearly 40 yards out and celebrating with her sister.

WHY SHE CHOSE WESTERN: For Matthews, coming to Western came down to the academic opportunities and campus. "I chose Western because of the academic opportunities it provides me & the positive team environment," she said. "I also like the campus and that it's close enough to home so my family can continue to watch me play."
