Biography

JUNIOR (2022): Saw action in 28 games, starting 14 of them… finished with nine hits and three RBIs on the season, including a double against Eastern Illinois on May 17… best performance at the plate came against Mizzou on April 12, as he finished the game 3-3 with a run scored… walked nine times and was 5-5 on stolen base attempts… finished the season with 10 putouts.

SOPHOMORE (2021): Appeared in 26 games, starting 22 of them... had three hits, including both a double and triple, versus South Dakota State (March 28)... posted three other multi-hit games... handed out two RBI at Saint Louis (March 13)... walked twice in three different games.

FRESHMAN (2020): Played in nine games with five starts… first collegiate hit came at Memphis (March 1)... ended on a five-game hitting streak… had seven hits with two multi hit games… batted .368 with an on-base percentage of .455.

HIGH SCHOOL: Totaled four varsity letters in baseball for coach Jerry Burkhead at Rock Island… earned two in basketball… All-Conference and All-Metro three straight seasons (2016-18)...All-State selection in 2018… named Quad-City Times Co-Captain Player of the Year and All-area Baseball Player of the Year his junior year… batted .441 with 49 runs, 15 doubles, 37 RBI, three home runs and 22 stolen bases in 2018. 

PERSONAL: Born Nov. 4, 2000… son of Julie and Dave VanDerGinst… choose Western because “It can give me a great education while still being close to home. On the baseball side of things, I feel that I can develop as a player and person here from the coaching staff and future teammates and I really believe we will be competitive over the next four years.”... most memorable sports moment was winning the back-to-back conference and regional championships… father is his biggest influence in sports “because he’s always helped me reach my fullest potential and believes in me through everything.”... hobbies include playing basketball and hanging out with friends and family… majoring in Management.
