MACOMB, IL. — Western Illinois quarterback Kennedy McGill has been named the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week following a standout performance in the Leathernecks' 59-2 victory over Morehead State on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Hanson Field.

McGill turned in one of the most impressive offensive performances of the season, accounting for 345 total yards and five touchdowns while helping lead Western Illinois to its second win of the 2026 season. The fifth-year quarterback completed 25-of-31 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 81 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground.

McGill opened the scoring for the Leathernecks with a 28-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. Through the air, he connected with Tanner Zolnosky for a five-yard touchdown before adding touchdown passes to Ihson Jackson-Anderson, Israel Hiraldo and Lukas Gilland.

Behind McGill's performance, Western Illinois amassed 593 yards of total offense and scored on seven offensive drives, taking a 31-0 lead into halftime before finishing with the 59-2 victory.

The OVC honor marks recognition of McGill's dominant performance against Morehead State. He shares this week's Co-Offensive Player of the Week award with Tennessee State running back Brenton Paul.
