MACOMB, Ill. — The Western Illinois women's soccer team returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19, traveling to Indianapolis for a non-conference matchup against Butler. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Varsity Field as part of Butler's homecoming activities.

The Leathernecks enter the matchup at 1-9-0 overall after Sunday's 3-1 setback against Illinois State. Western Illinois continues to see progress throughout the season, with the Leathernecks looking to carry that momentum into their final non-conference road match.

Against Illinois State, Claire Brown provided the Leathernecks' lone goal of the afternoon, finding the back of the net in the 88th minute. Mahee-Lee Caron recorded five saves during the opening 45 minutes before Lillian Johns took over in goal for the second half and finished with six saves.

SCOUTING BUTLER

Butler enters Saturday's match with a 4-2-1 record after earning a 3-0 victory over Central Michigan on Sunday. The Bulldogs have won three consecutive matches while outscoring their opponents 9-0 during that stretch.

Butler received goals from Alyssa Carlson, Sarah Monnin and Lola Pepper in Sunday's victory. Carlson scored shortly before halftime before Monnin doubled the lead in the 52nd minute. Pepper added the final goal seven minutes later.

Addison Ash made two saves to record her third shutout of the season and sixth of her career. Carlson has now scored in back-to-back matches, while Sunday's goal marked the first collegiate goal for Monnin.

LOOKING AHEAD

Saturday's match marks Western Illinois' final non-conference road contest before the Leathernecks return to Macomb later this month. Following the Butler matchup, Western Illinois will return home Sunday, Sept. 27, to host Southeast Missouri.
