MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois Volleyball team will be back in action on Saturday, August 22nd, with an exhibition match against the Quincy Hawks at Western Hall in Macomb.
This marks the final match on the preseason schedule for the Leathernecks, one in which the team is hoping to get extra prepared for the upcoming season.
Western Illinois is hoping to take the positive aspects from their first exhibition match, a loss against Valparaiso, and build on them, leaning on the experience of players like Hillary Estes, Grace Ulatowski, and Kennedy Adair.
This matchup will be a final test to see what the team needs to work on before the Mizzou Invitational, which is from August 28th-30th. There will be very good competition at this round robin tournament, so the Leathernecks being prepared will be paramount.
Quincy is a team that is coming off of a 26-7 season, one in which they also made the NCAA Division 2 National tournament, losing in the Midwest Region Quarterfinal to Ferris State. The team also ended the season receiving 9 votes to be ranked in the final top 25. This exhibition match against another team that was very successful last year will give the Leathernecks a great challenge, and a chance to continue to improve ahead of the upcoming regular season.
This weekend will also be Punch Card weekend, where if you attend all 3 home events on August 22nd and 23rd, you will be entered to have a chance to win VIP Access to the first football game on August 27th! This game will also be the Alumni game for the Leathernecks this season! After the end of the exhibition match, there will be an alumni game, where the alumni will also have the opportunity to meet the current players as well!
