MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois took care of business Saturday afternoon, beating SIUE 10-1 in Macomb.
The Leathernecks came out hot, putting up seven runs in the first inning and setting the tone early. Wandel Campana got things started with an RBI single, followed by a two-RBI double from Gage Hoover. Isaiah Monge, Krayton Morse, Josh McClintock, and Joe Connolly all added RBIs in the inning as WIU jumped out to a big lead.
Western added on in the fourth when Campana launched a two-run home run to make it 9-0, and picked up one more in the seventh on an RBI walk from Hoover.
Campana led the offense with three RBIs, while Hoover also drove in three. Monge finished with two hits and an RBI, and both Connolly and McClintock had two hits.
On the mound, Jason Buhl went six innings, allowing just one run while striking out seven to earn the win. Cade Sonoqui closed it out with three scoreless innings.
SIUE scored its only run in the sixth, but couldn't get much going the rest of the way as WIU stayed in control the entire game.
