WIU Baseball Drops Three-Game Road Series at ULM

MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois Leathernecks dropped a three-game road series at Lou St. Amant Field to the ULM Warhawks, showing offensive firepower throughout the weekend but unable to slow ULM's big innings.

GAME 1
The Warhawks struck early with four runs in the opening frame and built their lead across the first five innings on the way to a 12–5 final. WIU recorded nine hits in the contest, highlighted by Joe Connolly's two doubles and two RBI performance and Liam Bushey's 2-for-5 outing with a double and two RBI. The Leathernecks made their biggest push in the seventh, plating four runs behind back-to-back RBI doubles from Connolly and Bushey, but could not overcome the early deficit.

GAME 2
Bushey set the tone in the first inning with a solo home run, and the Leathernecks battled back to tie the game at 3-3 in the third behind an RBI double from Connolly and an RBI single from Isaiah Monge. A sacrifice fly by Krayton Morse in the fourth evened the score at 4-4, but ULM regained control with a three-run seventh and added four more in the eighth to secure an 11–4 win. WIU totaled nine hits in the game, with Bushey leading the way at the plate.

GAME 3
Western Illinois came out strong in the series finale, jumping to a 4-0 lead through three innings. Monge launched a two-run homer in the first, while Connolly and Paul Osting each drove in runs to extend the advantage. ULM responded with a seven-run fifth inning to swing momentum, and despite a 12-hit effort from the Leathernecks — including multi-hit games from Monge, Connolly, Gage Hoover, and Wandel Campana — WIU fell 11–7. The Leathernecks added a run in the sixth and two more in the ninth, but the late rally came up short.

The Leathernecks will continue their road trip by going to Saint Louis University to face the Bilikens on March 3.
