Box Score 2 MACOMB,Ill.- The Western Illinois University women's tennis team wrapped up a two-match road swing against Omaha and Creighton, dropping a pair of 0-7 decisions despite several competitive showings throughout the weekend.
Against Omaha, the Leathernecks battled hard in doubles play. Richardlyne Francois and Nadezhda Petkova teamed up at the No. 3 spot to secure a 6-4 victory over Khayli Buckels and Krace Greenwald. In singles action, Chloe Routier battled through a three-set thriller at No. 3 before narrowly falling 0-6, 7-5, 5-7. Jessica Hess also forced extended play at No. 5, delivering a gritty effort before coming up short. Omaha claimed the remaining singles contests to seal the team win.
In the second match of the trip, WIU squared off with Creighton and continued to compete point-for-point. The Bluejays took control in doubles before sweeping singles play to secure the overall decision. Routier once again pushed her opponent at No. 3 singles, splitting the first two sets 6-2 and 3-6 before falling in a tight third-set tiebreak. Creighton added straight-set wins at the remaining positions to close out the match.
Western Illinois now turns its attention back home, where the Leathernecks will host Milwaukee and Northern Illinois on February 28 and March 1.
