WIU Women’s Tennis Edges Valparaiso in Close 4-3 Win

MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois women's tennis picked up a tight 4-3 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday in a match that came down to the final courts. The win moves the Leathernecks to 2-3 on the season.

Valparaiso grabbed the early lead after winning the doubles point, putting WIU in comeback mode heading into singles play.

The Leathernecks answered with four singles wins to take control of the match. Mana Fawcett delivered a steady performance for a straight-set win, and Nour Gueblaoui followed with a strong victory of her own.

Chloe Routier bounced back after dropping her first set, winning the next two to give Western Illinois another crucial point. The deciding win came from Nadezhda Petkova, who shook off a tough first-set tiebreak loss and dominated the final two sets to clinch the match for WIU.

Valparaiso earned two singles wins, but Western Illinois' depth and resilience proved to be the difference in the narrow road victory. The Leathernecks will look to carry that momentum into their next match.
