MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois men's soccer team returns home Sunday, October 4, to host Southern Indiana in Ohio Valley Conference action at John MacKenzie Alumni Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Western Illinois 3-5-2 looks to respond after a narrow 1-0 loss to SIUE on Thursday night at Ralph Korte Stadium. The Leathernecks created several opportunities throughout the contest, putting multiple shots on target in the first half before continuing to apply pressure after the break. Despite their efforts, Western Illinois was unable to find an equalizer.
Goalkeepers Harvey Bolland and Drew Heller split time in net against the Cougars. Heller entered at halftime and recorded two saves in the second half to keep the Leathernecks within reach.
Southern Indiana enters Sunday's matchup following a 6-2 loss to Eastern Illinois on Thursday at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles fell behind 4-0 at halftime before sophomore midfielder Nolan Stevens scored twice in the second half. Stevens found the net in the 54th and 74th minutes, while Virgil Stevens and Jimmy Murphy each recorded an assist.
Sunday's contest is another opportunity for Western Illinois to build momentum in conference play and defend its home field as the OVC schedule continues.
