Leatherneck Tennis Tops Chicago State, 5-2

MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois women's tennis picked up a strong road victory on Friday, defeating Chicago State University, 5-2, in nonconference action.

The Leathernecks claimed the doubles point to open the match. Nour Gueblaoui and Richardlyne Francois delivered a dominant 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while Nadezhda Petkova and Chloe Routier secured the point by default at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Mana Fawcett and Jessica Hess was left unfinished with WIU leading.

Western Illinois stayed in control during the one-on-one matches, winning four out of the six matchups. Mana Fawcett earned a strong win, losing just two games total in her match. Nadezhda Petkova was even more dominant, winning every single game she played without giving her opponent a chance to score. Nour Gueblaoui also helped the team by winning her match in two straight sets, pulling away in a close contest to seal the victory.

Denver Johnson also earned a point at No. 6 singles by default to round out the Leathernecks' scoring.

Chicago State picked up wins at the top two singles spots, but it wasn't enough to overcome Western Illinois' depth throughout the lineup.

WIU improves its momentum as they continue their road trip to face Valparaiso Sunday, February 1st.
