MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois women's tennis sophomore Mana Fawcett has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Singles Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Fawcett, a native of Acworth, Georgia, went a perfect 2-0 at No. 3 singles during the Leathernecks' first match of the season against IUIndy, picking up a pair of impressive wins against a strong opponent.
She opened the week with a straight-set victory over IU Indy, earning a 7-5, 6-3 win to help set the tone in the match. Fawcett then followed with a gritty three-set performance against Marquette, battling to a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory to secure her second singles win of the week.
Her resilience and consistency at the No. 3 spot provided a key boost in the lineup and showcased her ability to close out tight matches under pressure.
This marks Fawcett's first OVC weekly honor of the season and highlights a strong start to the spring campaign for the sophomore.
Western Illinois returns to action this week as they hit the road to face Illinois State, Chicago State, and Valparaiso.
