Leathernecks Tennis Falls Short at Home

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois University women's tennis team dropped a tightly contested match to IU Indianapolis on Friday afternoon, falling by a final score of 4–3 at home.

In doubles play, the Leathernecks won two of three matches to claim the opening point. At No. 1, the pair of Richardlyne Francois and Nour Gueblaoui fell 3–6 to Kallyhan Kadzinski and Elle Kotre. The duo of Mana Fawcett and Jessica Hess responded with a victory at No. 2, defeating Grace Lampman and Sara Jankovic, 7–5. At No. 3, Chloe Routier and Nadezhda Petkova secured the doubles point for WIU with a 6–3 win over Chloe Bailey and Calli Sokolowski.

In singles play, Western Illinois earned two victories across the lineup. At the No. 3 position, Mana Fawcett picked up a straight-set win over Chloe Bailey, 7–5, 6–3. Denver Johnson followed at No. 6 with a strong performance, defeating Grace Lampman, 7–6, 6–2.

At No. 1, Richardlyne Francois dropped a 6–3, 6–3 decision to Kallyhan Kadzinski. Chloe Routier competed at No. 2 but fell to Sara Jankovic, 6–2, 7–5.

At No. 4, Nour Gueblaoui battled through three sets but came up short against Calli Sokolowski, 2–6, 7–5, 6–2. The deciding match came at No. 5, where Jessica Hess fought through three sets but ultimately fell to Elle Kotre, 6–3, 2–6, 6–3, giving IU Indianapolis the match.

WIU Women's Tennis returns to action tomorrow as the Leathernecks host Marquette.
