Defensive Keys
The Leathernecks will lean on Daniela Gularte to anchor the back line and keep the group compact against both St. Thomas and Morehead State. Staying disciplined in shape, limiting breakdowns, and communicating clearly will be crucial to slowing counter attacks and protecting the box. Strong defense will also ensure goalkeeper Ariel Bernard isn't under as many attacks, giving WIU a better chance to settle into the match and build momentum.
Freshman Shining
Abigail Schilling has stepped up as one of Western's top scoring threats this season, netting two goals to lead the Leatherneck attack. She is now tied for leading the team in goals this year with Kayla Turner.Â
Scouting St. Thomas (2-3-1)
The Tommies come to Macomb on Thursday with a 2-3-1 record. St. Thomas has played close contests throughout the season and will look to pick up its first road win after starting 0-2-1 away from home.
Scouting Morehead State (2-7-0)
The Leathernecks travel Sunday to Kentucky to face Morehead State. The Eagles enter at 2-7-0 and are coming off a difficult nonconference schedule. Despite the record, Morehead has shown resilience and strong stretches of play, and the matchup will provide another test for WIU as it searches to turn offensive opportunities into goals.
