Macomb, IL- Western Illinois men's soccer suffered a 5-0 defeat to Northern Illinois on Thursday evening. The Leathernecks entered the match aiming to rebound from a heartbreaking last-second loss to Quincy, but the Huskies kept control from the opening whistle.
NIU struck early and often, scoring four times in the first half to build a lead too large for the Leathernecks to overcome. The Huskies outshot the Leathernecks 20-5 on the night, including a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Western Illinois will look to regroup quickly as they turn their focus to Sunday's matchup against Northern Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Macomb.
