Where: Macomb, IL & Cedar Falls, IA
When: 8/21& 8/24 1:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m.

New Year, New Western
The Western Illinois University women's soccer program won its season opener against Saint Ambrose last week 2-0 behind fifth-year midfielder Kayla Turner's two goals in 38 minutes of play time. Turner had three shots in total, with both shots on goal connecting. This win marked the first win of Ross Henderson's coaching career at Western Illinois, and it was the first time since 2019 that the team had started 1-0.

Newcomer Making Her Mark
Fifth-year defender Daniela Gularte played in her first game for Western Illinois and showed why head coach Ross Henderson brought her over from his previous school at Clayton State. She consistently controlled the backline with tremendous energy and communication while totaling all 90 minutes played.

First Shutout of Young Career
Sophomore goalkeeper Ariel Bernard completed her first shutout of her collegiate career. She had two saves against Saint Ambrose and was a steady force against any dangerous attacks by Saint Ambrose. She was voted the player to watch here at Western Illinois and showed why in the opener.

Scouting Drake (0-1-1)
Drake suffered its first loss of the season in a home match versus South Dakota this past Sunday. The game's final score between the Bulldogs and Coyotes was 2-1, with South Dakota scoring both its goals in the first half. Drake was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the Missouri Valley Conference for this season, the league announced earlier this week.

Scouting Northern Iowa (0-1-1)
The UNI soccer team kicked off its 2025 regular season on Thursday afternoon, battling back after an early second-half deficit and ultimately finishing in a tie against South Dakota. They followed that up with a 0-4 loss against Milwaukee, who won the Horizon League last year.
