WIU Falls In Series Finale Versus Morehead State

MACOMB, Ill-  WIU Baseball fell in the series finale to Morehead State by a final score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Leathernecks were 2-16 with runners in scoring position throughout the contest, loading the bases three different times and only producing one run.

Starter Jason Buhl went 5.2 innings and allowed six hits on three runs (0 earned) while striking out two. Karsten Stotlar and Eric Rawlings would pitch in relief, combining for one strikeout and allowing zero runs over 3.1 innings pitched. After Morehead State took an early 2-0 lead, the Leathernecks would respond in the bottom of the fourth with a run of their own. Kenneth Perez would draw a one out walk, followed by a Kyree Alexander double to right center to put runners on second and third. Chris Hege would then draw another one-out walk before Liam Bushey would pick up an RBI single through the left side cutting into the Eagle lead. Alexander would try to score from second base on the single from Bushey, but would be thrown out at the plate to keep the Eagles in front. Morehead State would score another run in the top of the sixth on a fielding error by Bushey, to extend their lead to what would eventually be the final score at 3-1.
