Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Western Illinois women's tennis team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell to Bryant University in the OVC championship Semifinals.
In doubles play, the Leathernecks battled hard but fell to the Bulldogs. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Nour Gueblaoui and Richardlyne Francois fell short 1-6. At No. 2, Paige Grice and Mana Fawcett pushed their match to a tiebreaker but came up just short, losing 6-7 (7-9). Chloé Routier and Lara Souza kept it close at No. 3, falling 4-6, as Bryant secured the opening point.
In singles action, Grice competed at No. 3 but fell 2-6, 2-6. Gueblaoui dropped both sets at No. 5 with a score of 2-6, 3-6. At No. 2 singles, Routier was defeated in straight sets, 2-6, 2-6 to give Bryant the clinching fourth point.
Three matches went unfinished. Francois trailed 1-6, 2-5 at No. 1. Souza split sets 6-2, 1-6 at No. 4 before play was stopped. Fawcett, competing at No. 6, lost the first set 4-6 but rebounded with a dominant 6-0 win in the second before the match was called.
Despite the loss, the Leathernecks showed resilience and promise throughout the postseason.
