Leathernecks Fall In Second Game At Little Rock

MACOMB, Ill- The Leatherneck Baseball team fell in game two of their three game series with the Little Rock Trojans on Friday night by a score of 11-7. WIU would jump out to an early 4-0 lead after three innings of play before Little Rock would score nine unanswered runs to seize control of the game. 

The offense put up one run in both the first and second innings to grab an early 2-0 lead. In the top of the first, Paul Osting and Krayton Morse would have back-to-back singles to start the game, threatening to score right away. Tyler Large would then ground into a double play, but would collect an RBI as Paul Osting would score from second to give WIU the lead at 1-0. In the top of inning number two, Brock Lummus would reach on an error with two outs, followed by Wandel Campana getting hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Osting would then get an RBI double to right field to extend the Leatherneck lead at 2-0. The highlight for WIU came in the top of the third however, when Kenneth Perez and Justin Bogard would have back-to-back solo home runs to put WIU ahead by a score of 4-0. Perez is now tied for first on the team in home runs with four, while Bogard has two home runs on the year, both coming in his last three games.

Paul Osting and Brock Lummus led the Leathernecks offensively, as they each collected three hits. Osting would go 3-4 with two singles. a double, and two RBI, while Lummus went 3-5 with three singles in his last three at bats to go along with an RBI in the ninth inning. 

Max Tripure got the starting nod on the mound for WIU, pitching the first four innings. Tripure would throw three scoreless innings to start the contest, but things would get away from him in the fourth as Little Rock scored five runs in the bottom of inning number four. He finished the game with 63 pitches, allowing nine hits and six runs. 

The Leathernecks will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon in the finale with Little Rock. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
