HILTON HEAD, SC. – The WIU tennis team came out victorious in Hilton Head, taking the win against George Mason University with an overall score of 5-2.

In doubles play, the Leathernecks were off to a hot start, winning two. At the No. 1 the pair of Nour Gueblaoui and Chloé Routier looked dominant, keeping the pressure on their opponents winning the match 6-4. The team of Richardlyne Francois and Mana Fawcett looked unstoppable at No. 2, finishing their match with a dominant score of 6-0. Paige Grice and Anna Trush played at No. 3 going back and forth with their opponents, ultimately suffering a 5-7 loss. Winning two of the three doubles matches gave WIU the first point of the match. 

In singles play, Routier continued her strong play at No. 1 earning a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 1. At No. 2, Grice was a dominant force making quick work of her match finishing in two sets with a score of 6-3 and 6-1. Francois started off strong in the first set, scoring 6-3, and managed to take the win in a close 7-5 second set at No. 3. Fawcett put on a show at No. 4, winning her match in 2 sets with a score of 6-2 and 6-3 to continue her hot run. 

Gueblaoui had a three set thriller taking the first set 6-2 and suffering 2-6 loss, ultimately dropping the tie breaker 0-1. Trush played her second match returning from injury, looking promising but suffering a 3-6, 3-6 loss to close out the match with a 5-2 win for WIU. 

WIU Tennis travels to Southern Indiana Saturday March 15 to face the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles.
