MACOMB, Ill. – The WIU tennis team comes up short in a hard fought battle against the Mizzou Tigers.
The Leathernecks dropped two in doubles play and left the third unfinished due to clinch. At the No. 1 the pair of Nour Gueblaoui and Chloé Routier played a tough match but suffered a 2-6 loss. The team of Paige Grice and Mana Fawcett faced a tough team at the No. 2 but ultimately suffered a 1-6 loss. Lara Souza and Richardlyne Francois looked promising but did not finish their match leaving the score at 3-4 giving Mizzou the opening point.
In singles play, Grice finished first at the No. 3 suffering a loss with a score of 1-6, 1-6. Fawcett followed, finishing second at the No. 4 suffering a 3-6, 1-6 loss. Routier fought hard at the No. 1 but ultimately suffered a loss with a score 3-6 and 4-6. Gueblaoui played at the No. 6 but left her match unfinished as the score was 0-4 in favor of Mizzou.
WIU Tennis stays on the road for their next two, facing Milwaukee Saturday March 1 and Chicago State Sunday March 2.
