MACOMB, Ill. – The WIU Tennis team put up a valiant effort but ultimately came up short in a hard-fought 3-4 loss to Bradley University.
In doubles play, the Leathernecks dropped two and won one. At the No. 1 the pair of Nour Gueblaoui and Chloé Routier struggled, suffering a 2-6 loss. Lara Souza and Richardlyn Francois played a hard match ultimately suffering a 1-6 loss. However, Paige Grice and Mana Fawcett earned a win by forfeit.
In singles play, freshman powerhouse Chloé Routier was forced to withdraw from her match due to injury. Moving Souza to No. 1 where she suffered a 0-6, 2-6 loss against a tough opponent. Grice fought hard at No. 2 but fell short, losing 4-6, 4-6.
Richardlyne Francois played an intense match at No. 3, ultimately losing 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
However, there were bright spots for the team as Fawcett triumphed at No. 4, winning in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-0. Gueblaoui put her all in at No. 5, securing a hard-earned victory in three sets: 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. Anna Trush was awarded a victory at No. 6 due to a forfeit, bringing the final score to 3-4 in favor of Bradley.
The Leathernecks look to bounce back as they host the University of Northern Iowa University February 7.
