Macomb, IL. – The Western Illinois University men's soccer team is set to face Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) in the Quarter finals of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament this Sunday at 12 P.M, hosted by Lindenwood University. This marks the third meeting between the two programs this season, with the Leathernecks winning both previous matchups. WIU looks to continue that success as postseason play begins.
This is the second consecutive year the Leathernecks have qualified for the OVC Tournament, a testament to the team's continued growth and resilience under head coach Dr. Eric Johnson.
Western Illinois enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed with a 5-10-4 overall record and a 3-3-4 mark in conference play. SIUE holds the No. 4 seed with a 5-10-2 overall record and a 4-4-2 conference record.
The Leathernecks enters the matchup with momentum after an impressive victory over top-seeded Lindenwood University to close out the regular season. That win showcased WIU's determination and ability to perform against the conference's best.
Leading the offensive charge for WIU is Liam Gainley, a Second Team All-OVC selection who has tallied seven goals this season. Gainley and the Leathernecks' attack will look to continue their strong form against a familiar SIUE side.
