MACOMB, IL- Western Illinois put together several strong stretches on both sides of the ball Thursday evening inside Western Hall, but Little Rock managed to stay in rhythm offensively to take the match in three sets. The Leathernecks showed defensive grit and steady ball control, highlighted by a strong back-row effort throughout the night.
Set 1
The opening frame saw Little Rock establish its rhythm early, using a strong offensive presence. Western Illinois' attack was fueled by standout efforts from Keyana Cruse and Kennedy Adair, who each helped generate momentum on the outside, while the Leathernecks turned in a pair of blocks to slow the Trojans' attack. Despite the late push, Little Rock's efficiency at the net proved the difference, taking the set 25-15.
Set 2
Western Illinois responded in the second set, collecting 11 kills as the offense settled in. Cruse continued to pace the Leatherneck attack, while setter Jaleah Bauss guided the offense with consistent ball distribution. After multiple ties midway through the frame, Little Rock used a late surge to secure the 25-18 result.
Set 3
The third set opened with Little Rock building early momentum, but the Leathernecks continued to battle behind key swings from Grace Kremer and Hillary Estes. Cruse and Grace Ulatowski anchored the defense, keeping plays alive with strong coverage in the back row. The Trojans, however, maintained their offensive rhythm to close out the match 25-15.
Match Leaders
Cruse led Western Illinois with seven kills and 12 digs. Adair added six kills and a block, while Kremer finished with three kills and a solo block. Bauss tallied 12 assists, and Ulatowski contributed four digs on the defensive end.

Western Illinois will look to bounce back quickly, returning to the court on November 7 at 2 p.m. to host Little Rock again inside Western Hall.
