Match-up

The Western Illinois women's basketball team hosts the Chicago State Cougars on Monday, Nov. 17th at 5 p.m. CT. WIU is in its third season in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Leathernecks are also on a 2 game winning streak, hoping to extend the streak.

Last Time Out

Western Illinois picked up its second straight win with a convincing 68–50 road victory at Northern Illinois. The Leathernecks controlled the game defensively, holding NIU to just 19 first-half points and never letting the Huskies regain momentum after halftime. Mia Nicastro led the way with a dominant 23-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Addi Brownfield added 13 points and nine boards. Allie Meadows chipped in 12 points and Mallory Shetley scored 10 as WIU finished with four players in double figures. Western also out-rebounded NIU 40–25, forced 18 turnovers, and outscored the Huskies 34–30 in the paint to seal the road win.

Scouting NIU

Chicago State enters the match-up continuing to build under third-year head coach Corry Irvin, who has been working to lay a stronger foundation within the program. The Cougars return a roster that showed flashes last season but struggled with consistency, finishing toward the bottom of the NEC while averaging just over 60 points per game. Chicago State leans heavily on guard play, with quickness on the perimeter and the ability to force turnovers, creating some of their best offensive opportunities. Rebounding and scoring efficiency remain areas they are working to improve, as the Cougars were often out-matched on the glass and shot in the mid-30s overall last season. Still, with a more experienced core and Irvin's steady leadership, Chicago State is aiming to take another step forward and become a more competitive, disciplined group on both ends of the floor.
