Matchup
The Western Illinois women's basketball team travels to DeKalb to face the Northern Illinois Huskies on Tuesday, Nov. 11th at 6 p.m. CT. WIU is in its third season in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Last Time Out

Mia Nicastro opened the season with a breakout performance, scoring 26 points while shooting efficiently from the field and from three, establishing herself as a go-to scoring option. Raegan McCowan added a strong interior presence after recording 16 points and nine rebounds, making her a key contributor on the glass. Kaylen Reed showcased her playmaking ability with seven assists to go along with 10 points, helping direct the offense with poise. On the perimeter, Allie Meadows provides another scoring spark after knocking down four three-pointers in her debut. The Leathernecks defeated the Blue Jays 116-46. Together, this group gives Western Illinois a balanced attack with multiple threats capable of impacting the game in different ways. 

Scouting NIU
Northern Illinois comes into the matchup led by guard Nadechka Laccen, who is averaging 17 points per game and serves as the Huskies' primary offensive engine. She's joined by Nevaeh Wingate, a strong secondary scorer putting up 13.5 points per game while also leading the team in assists, making her a key playmaker on the perimeter. Down low, Teresa Mbemba anchors the interior with a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game, giving NIU a presence on the glass. The Huskies have shown a balanced scoring approach across their rotation, with several players capable of contributing offensively. NIU also looks to create pressure defensively, with multiple players averaging over a steal per contest, making ball security a key factor in this matchup.

NIU is coached by Jacey Brooks, who enters her first season with the Huskies. Brooks' accolades include bringing experience with the University of Buffalo to the Mid-American Conference Championship and winning during the 2024-25 season. Brooks also led the team to the WNIT postseason championship.  Last season, the Huskies went 13-17 overall and 6-12 in conference.
