Western Illinois earns road draw at Incarnate Word, 0–0

Macomb, IL — The Western Illinois men's soccer team battled Incarnate Word to a hard-fought 0–0 draw on Thursday evening.  With the tie, the Leathernecks move to 3-8-2 on the season, while the Cardinals shift to 4-3-6.

Both sides traded chances throughout the match, but stout defensive play and strong goalkeeping kept the game scoreless. Incarnate Word held a 16–7 advantage in shots, including 6 on target, while Western Illinois placed 4 shots on goal of its own.

Senior Goalkeeper Micah Ramirez anchored the Leathernecks' defense, recording six saves, including key stops in the 21st and 27th minutes to deny UIW's Sophomore Forward Emmanuel Martinez and Junior Midfielder Noe Robles. Western Illinois' best opportunity came in the 33rd minute of the first half when Sophomore Forward/Midfielder Ty Duax fired low to the right, forcing a diving save from UIW's Graduate Student Goalie, Alejandro De La Torre.

The Cardinals applied pressure late, earning five corner kicks, but Western's back line held firm to secure the clean sheet. Neither team recorded a red card, though Incarnate Word was shown two yellow cards over the 90 minutes.

This is Western Illinois' second clean sheet of the season. The Leathernecks continue their road swing Sunday against Houston Christian at 3 p.m.
