MACOMB, Ill - Western Illinois Women's basketball put forth a good effort at Western Hall on Thursday night but ultimately fell short in a 73-60 loss to UT Martin. The Leathernecks now sit at 7-7 overall and 1-4 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
Raegan McCowan led the Leathernecks with a team-high 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks despite shooting 8-23 from the field. Addi Brownfield also made her presence felt, contributing 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, including two three-pointers that helped spark the team during crucial moments. Allie Meadows added a steady hand with 11 points, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc, while Mia Nicastro chipped in defensively with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Despite their efforts, Western Illinois struggled with turnovers, committing 18, leading to 16 Skyhawk points.
The Leathernecks showed resilience in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points, their highest output of the game, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
WIU will now host Tennessee State on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
