Leatherneck Volleyball Hosts Lindenwood; Travels to Tennessee Tech

Macomb, IL - The Leatherneck Volleyball team has a big week ahead as they will be taking on two of the top teams in the Ohio Valley Conference, hosting Lindenwood and traveling to Tennessee Tech. WIU comes into this three-match stretch winners of their last six in a row, tying their longest winning streak since 2007. The Leathernecks defeated SIUE over the weekend, beating the Cougars in four sets on Friday and sweeping them in three sets on Saturday to start off 2-0 in conference play, also for the first time since 2007.  

Maggie Craker had a great opening weekend in OVC play. Craker had 46 assists along with 13 digs and 2 kills in a 4 set victory on Friday. She would follow that with 45 assists, 4 digs, and 2 kills on Saturday with the team having a hitting percentage of .423 in a sweep over SIUE. Maggie currently has 2,534 career assists and is approaching number four all-time in Leatherneck Volleyball history for career assists. She was also named the OVC Co-Setter of the week on September 30. 


About Lindenwood

Lindenwood comes into the matchup against WIU with an overall record of 8-6 and a conference record of 2-0 after sweeping Eastern Illinois on Friday and Saturday. Before the season, Lindenwood was projected to finish 5th in the OVC preseason polls. The winner between the Lions and Leathernecks will be in sole possession of first place in the OVC before heading into the weekend matches.
 

The Lions are led offensively by outside hitters Nyah Wilson and Addy McAleer. Wilson has 132 kills on the year (2.44 K/S) and McAleer has 129 kills (2.35 K/S). Lindenwood also has one of the top setters in the OVC in Allie Otten. Otten has 468 assists on the year (8.51 A/S) as well as 12 service aces in 14 matches played. Defensively, Lindenwood is led by fifth year Libero Jessie Seidel who has 249 total digs on the season (4.53 dig/s).

Last season, Lindenwood swept WIU in three sets on their home floor in the only meeting between the two teams. 


About Tennessee Tech 

Tennessee Tech is 13-1 on the season with their only loss coming to Marshall at the Greensboro Invitational. The Golden Eagles are also 2-0 in the OVC after beating Tennessee State in five sets and beating Morehead State in four sets. They were projected to finish 4th in the OVC in the preseason polls. 
 

The Golden Eagles are led offensively by Senior Outside Hitter Madolyn Isringhausen who is at the top of the OVC in a few statistical categories. Isringhausen is first in the OVC in total kills with 233 and is first in service aces with 27. Defensively, Tennessee Tech is led by Senior Libero Mckenna Young who has 221 digs on the year (4.51 dig/s). 

 
Last season, WIU was swept by Tennessee Tech inside Western Hall with both matches going four sets.  


A look ahead

The Leathernecks will be back at Western Hall hosting in-state rival Eastern Illinois on Thursday Oct. 10 and Friday Oct. 11. Thursday is set for 6:00 p.m and Friday is set for 4 p.m.
