Western Illinois Women's Basketball Add NCAA Tournament Experience to 2024 Roster

| By:

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois women's basketball team and Head Coach JD Gravina complete their roster with the addition of Saint Louis University transfer Mia Nicastro.

"Mia is the perfect fit for what we were looking for to complete our roster." Said Gravina, "At 6'2, she has guard skills, can shoot it, and moves incredibly well. She can go get rebounds, and score around the basket on slips and quick seals as well."

Nicastro started in 24 games as a freshman for SLU, helping the Billikens to win the Atlantic 10 conference tournament and reach the NCAA tournament. She led her freshmen class in all categories, including minutes (536) and scoring (169). During her freshmen year, she earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.

In high school, Nicastro was an All-State player at St. Charles West in St. Charles, MO, where she averaged 20.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. Nicastro earned a McDonald's All-American nominee and was named a three-time Gateway Athletic Conference North Player of the Year.

"She will really thrive in our positionless offense and help us defensively and on the boards." Gravina added, "Of course, she is a high achieving student and a really great person, two things that are standard for our program."

Nicastro family is no stranger to the state of Illinois as her dad played football and mom played softball at the University of Illinois.
