Western Illinois Tennis Closes Out Regular Season This Weekend

MACOMB -- The Western Illinois women's tennis program wraps the regular season this weekend with a pair of matches.

On Friday, the Leathernecks close out the home schedule, taking on Lindenwood at 11 a.m. Friday's match also serves as Senior Day. Western Illinois is honoring seniors Agatha Carbonell, Maria Rybka, Lorena Castellanos and Aina Cortina-Pou.

On Saturday, WIU hits the road, taking on SIUE at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE LEATHERNECKS: Western Illinois comes into the weekend 2-13 overall, 0-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Paige Grice and Anna-Evelina Trush lead the team with five singles wins apiece. The doubles duo of Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza lead the squad with four wins.

LAST TIME: Western Illinois has not played since Friday, March 29. The Leathernecks lost to Southern Indiana 5-2. In that match, Grice and Carbonell each scored wins in singles. In doubles play, Grice and Carbonell teamed up for a victory at No. 2 doubles.

WHAT'S NEXT: After this weekend, Western Illinois heads to the OVC Tournament at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Leathernecks are currently the No. 7 seed and would play at noon on Friday, April 19 against No. 2 SIUE.

ABOUT LINDENWOOD: Lindenwood is 6-8 overall, 2-3 in the OVC. The Lions won their last match, 4-3, over Tennessee State on April 5. This is the regular season finale for Lindenwood.

ABOUT SIUE: The Cougars are 14-3 overall, 4-1 in the OVC. SIU has won four matches in a row and is coming off a 6-1 win over Southern Indiana on April 7.
