WIU Tennis Visits EIU Friday

Leathernecks resume OVC play

MACOMB – The Western Illinois tennis team is back in action this week, playing an OVC match. On Friday, the Leathernecks head to Charleston to take on Ohio Valley Conference rival, Eastern Illinois at 11 a.m. The Leathernecks are 2-11 overall this spring and 0-2 in conference.

LAST TIME OUT: Western dropped a pair of OVC matches last week. On Tuesday, the Leathernecks fell at home to SEMO, 6-1. Anna-Evelina Trush scored WIU's lone win, picking up a third-set tiebreak victory. Last Saturday, Western Illinois fell at Tennessee State 4-3. Paige Grice, Aina Cortina-Pou and Agatha Carbonell all picked up wins for the Leathernecks.

WHAT'S NEXT: After this week's matches, Western Illinois is off until March 30 when they host Southern Indiana. The Leathernecks then take on Lindenwood in the home finale, April 12. WIU closes out the regular season on April 13 at SIUE.

LEADING THE WAY: Trush and Grice lead the Leathernecks with four wins in singles this season. Both are 4-9 this year. In doubles, the team of Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza lead the squad with a 4-9 record.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS: Eastern Illinois is 0-16 this spring and 0-1 in the OVC. EIU is coming off a 5-2 loss at Southern Indiana last week.
