Leathernecks Fall in OVC Match at Tennessee State

Grice, Cortina-Pou, Carbonell pick up singles wins

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Western Illinois tennis squad dropped an Ohio Valley Conference on Friday, falling at Tennessee State, 4-3.

The Leathernecks split the singles portion of play on Friday, but the Tigers swept the doubles, taking the point to make the difference. In singles, Paige Grice, Aina Cortina-Pou and Agatha Carbonell all picked up victories.

Playing No. 2 singles, Grice was able to get a 6-3, 6-4 victory. At No. 3, Cortina-Pou was able to grind out a three-set, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. And at No. 4 singles, Carbonell scored picked up a three-set win, winning 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

The loss drops WIU to 2-11 overall, 0-2 in the OVC. The Leathernecks are next in action on Friday, visiting Eastern Illinois.
