Leathernecks Make OVC Tennis Debut This Week

WIU hosts SEMO, travels to Tennessee State

MACOMB – The Western Illinois women's tennis team begins Ohio Valley Conference play this week, facing a pair of league foes.

On Tuesday, the Leathernecks (2-9) make their OVC debut, hosting SEMO at the Brophy Tennis Courts at 11 a.m. On Friday, Western Illinois hits the road for Nashville, taking on Tennessee State at 1 p.m.

Western Illinois is coming off a pair of nonconference losses last week, falling to St. Louis last Wednesday and St. Louis on Saturday. Against Kansas City, the No. 1 doubles team of Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza and Paige Grice scored WIU's lone win of the week.

The Redhawks are 5-6 overall and have won two matches in a row, beating Arkansas State 4-2 and Bradley 4-0.  SEMO was tabbed the OVC preseason favorite and is 3-0 all-time vs. the Leathernecks.

On Friday, WIU hits the road, taking on Tennessee State. The Tigers are 1-12 this season but are coming off their first victory this season, topping Bethune-Cookman, 4-3. The match is the first meeting between the two programs.
