Leatherneck Tennis Plays a Pair this Weekend

WIU hosts NIU in Galesburg on Friday, travels to Bradley on Saturday

MACOMB – The Western Illinois women's tennis team returns to action this week with a pair of matches. The Leathernecks host for the first time this winter, taking on Northern Illinois in Galesburg on Friday at noon. The Huskies are 3-4 overall after going 1-2 last weekend. NIU topped Northern Iowa 6-1 last Friday before falling to Iowa 2-5. Northern Illinois also lost 4-0 to DePaul. The Leathernecks have never defeated Northern Illinois and are 0-11 all-time.

Western Illinois then heads to Bradley to take on the Braves on Saturday at 10 a.m. Bradley is 1-5 and coming off a 6-1 defeat to SIU-E last Saturday. The match against Bradley will be played at Parkside Fitness in Pekin. WIU is 0-4 all-time vs. Bradley.

LAST TIME OUT | The Leathernecks dropped a pair of matches last week, falling 6-1 at St. Thomas and 7-0 at Northern Iowa. Paige Grice captured the lone win of the week, winning at No. 2 singles vs. the Tommies.

LEADING THE WAY | Grice and freshman Anna-Evelina Trush lead the way, each with two singles wins this winter/spring season. In doubles, the team of Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza have two wins playing in the No. 1 spot.

WHAT'S NEXT | After this weekend, the Leathernecks are off until March 6, when they host St. Louis University in Macomb.
