Western Illinois Women Drop Weekend Contests

Leathernecks fall at St. Thomas, UNI

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. / WATERLOO, Iowa – The Western Illinois women's tennis team went on the road and dropped a match at St. Thomas on Friday and Northern Iowa on Saturday.

Against the Panthers, the Leathernecks fell 7-0.

In singles, Paige Grice took her first set 6-3, but fell in the final two, dropping the match. Aina Cortina-Pou also forced three sets, but could not pick up the victory.

In doubles play, Northern Iowa took all three matches.

In Friday's match at former Summit League rival, St. Thomas, the Leathernecks fell 6-1.

Paige Grice captured the lone Western Illinois win, taking a straight-stet victory. Grice won the first set, 6-3. In the second, Grice finished the match in a tiebreaker, winning 7-6 (8-6).

Western Illinois is next in action on Friday, hosting Northern Illinois. On Saturday, the Leathernecks are at Bradley.
