Leatherneck Football To Host Gardner-Webb in Final Home Game

Macomb, Ill- The Western Illinois football team will host the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Hanson Field in Macomb, Ill.  

In their first season as members of the Big South–OVC Football Association, the Leathernecks currently hold a 3-8 record with a conference record of 2-5. Their most recent game was a 54-45 loss to #12 Southeast Missouri on November 16.  WIU has won the most games in a season since the 2018 season when they went 5-6 overall. 

Players To Watch

Nathan Lamb has completed 239 of 369 passes for 2,980 yards with 19 TD's and 7 INT's on the year. Lamb currently sits 8th in the FCS for total pass yards and ranks #1 in passing efficiency in the OVC.

Cameren Smith leads the ground game with 188 carries for 822 yards and 7 touchdowns while Matthew Henry is one of the top receivers in the OVC ranking first in receiving yards (969) and ranking 12th in the FCS for receiving yards per game (88.1). 


Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb is 4-7 overall with a conference record of 3-4. Their most recent game was a 23-20 loss to Tennessee State on November 16. The Bulldogs are led by quarterback Tyler Riddell who has thrown for 2,339 yards and has 13 TD's and 10 INTS on the year. Defensively, they are led by linebacker Trevor Moffitt who has 64 tackles on the season with five sacks and one INT. 
 

Game Outlook:

The Leathernecks will be looking to secure a home victory in their final game of the regular season. The game is expected to be played under partly sunny skies with a high of 49°F  and a low of 38°F.
