Macomb, Ill- The WIU men's soccer team dropped their home match against Incarnate Word by a score of 2-0. Both goals allowed by the Leathernecks came late in the second half at the 82nd and 85th minute.
In the first half, the Cardinals out-shot the Leathernecks 4-3 and also won the corner battle 4-2. WIU would have three yellow cards in the first half and the match would be scoreless at half time.
In the second half, Incarnate Word out-shot WIU 11-5, and would score both of their goals late in the half. In the 82nd minute, the Cardinals would score a goal on a free kick after a foul from WIU. Three minutes later, Incarnate Word would score again on a penalty kick after a foul occurred in the box. The Cardinals would hold on for the last five minutes of the match and defeat WIU.
With one match to go in the regular season, the Leathernecks are desperately needing a win to qualify for the OVC tournament in Edwardsville. WIU will finish the regular season at home on Sunday afternoon against Houston Christian. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
