Macomb, Ill- The Leatherneck volleyball team will hit the road to take on the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles for a pair of matches taking place this weekend in Evansville, Indiana. WIU is coming off a sweep over in-state rival Eastern Illinois after defeating the Panthers at home in both matches last week. The Leathernecks are now 4-3 in the OVC and are alone in sixth place in the conference standings heading into this weekend.Â
Setting Records
With eleven games remaining in the 2024 regular season, WIU has already won the most games in a season (10) since 2013 in which they finished 12-18 that year. The Leathernecks will hope to continue to build off the success, and make a second straight OVC tournament appearance at the end of November.
Earlier in the week, Senior Outside Hitter Keyana Cruse won her third OVC offensive player of the week award this season. The Bonner Springs native finished the matches against EIU last week with back-to-back double doubles, totaling 41 kills and 29 digs. Cruse is the first player in program history to have three offensive player of the week honors in one season.Â
