Western Illinois Tennis Drops a Pair of Matches this Weekend

Doubles duo of Grice and Rossetto Diniz de Souza pick up win vs. Cincy

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Western Illinois women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on the road this weekend, falling to Cincinnati 7-0 on Friday and 7-0 to Bowling Green on Saturday.

In the Friday match vs. Cincinnati, the Leathernecks lost the doubles portion, 2-1. The No. 1 doubles duo of Paige Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza picked up Western Illinois' lone victory of the evening, winning 6-1.

In singles, Cincinnati claimed victory in straight sets in each match.

On Saturday at Bowling Green, the Leathernecks dropped all three doubles matches to lose the point. In singles play, the Falcons also swept the Leathernecks.

Playing No. 1 singles, Rossetto Diniz de Souza took the first set, but fell shy in sets two and three in the loss. At No. 4 singles, Agatha Carbonell also won the first set (6-2), but could not end the match with a victory. At No. 5 singles, Maria Rybka also nearly pulled off a victory, taking the first set 7-5, but she would fall in the second and drop a tiebreaker (11-9) in the third.

Western Illinois is next in action with a pair of matches in two weeks. The Leathernecks visit St. Thomas on February 9, playing at 2 p.m. The next day, Western Illinois is at Northern Iowa, playing the Panthers at 1 p.m.
