Western Illinois Tennis Heads to Ohio

Leathernecks face Cincinnati and Bowling Green this weeked

MACOMB – The Western Illinois women's tennis team hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend. The Leathernecks (1-1) open play on Friday at Cincinnati. Western Illinois follows that with a match at Bowling Green on Saturday.

The Bearcats and Leathernecks play at 5:30 p.m. at the Western Athletic Club in Cincinnati. On Saturday, Western Illinois and Bowling Green face off at 1:30 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.

This is the first time the Leathernecks have faced either program.

Western Illinois is coming off a split last weekend. The Leathernecks fell to Illinois State on Saturday, 6-1, then topped IUPUI on Sunday, 4-3.

Against IUPUI, the doubles teams of Paige Grice/Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza and Agatha Carbonell/Anna-Evelina Trush each scored wins. In singles play, Grice, Rossetto Diniz de Souza and Trush all picked up wins.

Cincinnati is 2-0 this winter with wins over Chicago State (4-0) and Southern Indiana (7-0). Bowling Green is 1-1 with a win over Dayton (4-3) and a loss to Northwestern Ohio (3-4).

After the matches, Western Illinois is off for two weeks, visiting St. Thomas (Feb. 9) and Northern Iowa (Feb. 10). The Leathernecks are next scheduled to be at home February 16 vs. Northern Illinois.
