Leathernecks Look To Bounce Back in Pair of Weekend Matches

Previous matchup: Western holds a 5-7 all-time record against Green Bay, dating back to 2000. The Leathernecks are 3-2 against the Phoenix when playing in Macomb, most recently winning in Macomb in 2010. In last year's matchup in Green Bay, Western lost 2-0.
In last year's matchup vs Illinois State, the Leathernecks lost 2-1 in Macomb. Dating back to - Western holds a 1-4 record against the Redbirds, dating back to 2017. 

Scouting the opponents: Green Bay has opened the season with a 0-2-2 record. The Phoenix opened the season with back-to-back losses to Kansas State and Drake, then tied at DePaul and Stetson. Green Bay has scored 3 goals on the season, with 2 of them being assisted by Sophomore Siena Morgano. 
As for the Redbirds, they have opened the season with a 0-3-1 record, and Sunday's match will be the last of their nonconference schedule. They have lost to Indiana, Butler, and North Dakota, and recently tied in a home match with Oakland. Freshman Katie O'Malley has scored one and assisted one in just over 200 minutes. 

So far this season: The Leathernecks currently hold a 1-3-1 record, with a win against Chicago State, and tie against Northern Iowa. The Leathernecks recently returned home from a road trip where they took a nail-biting 0-1 loss to Loyola, and a less competitive affair against Milwaukee that saw the Panthers win 4-0. 

Players to watch: Junior Sachiko Gamo has scored the only goal for the Leathernecks. Keeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez won the first two OVC Goalkeeper of the week awards, as the senior has 2 clean sheets on the season. 

What's next: After this weekend's matches, Western Illinois will start Ohio Valley Conference play with a home match against SEMO, on Thursday, Sep. 21 at 3 PM.
