Previous matchup: Western and Lindenwood faced off for the first time last season, as the Leathernecks won 3-2 in Macomb. Returners Jack Immesoete and Kyle Owen both scored in the match. Bradley and Western last matched up in 2021, when the squads drew 0-0. Western is 1-2-3 in matches vs. Bradley dating back to 2015.

Scouting the opponents: Lindenwood has opened the season 1-2 so far. The Lions opened the season with two losses at DePaul and Loyola, but recently beat Southwest Baptist University to get their first win of the season. Lindenwood had six different players record a goal or assist in the match. Bradley has opened the season 3-0-1, with wins against Chicago State, DePaul, and Eastern Illinois. The only time the Braves have dropped points resulted in a tie against Kansas City. Freshman DJ Koulai has opened the season with a goal and an assist for Bradley.

So far this season: The Leathernecks have had some unfortunate luck to start the season, as they have opened 2023 with three consecutive 0-1 losses. These all came away, against Northern Illinois, Green Bay, and most recently Drake. Western is looking to get their first goal of the season at home this week.

Players to watch: WIU's Kyle Owen and Caleb Ragland were named Summit League Players to Watch for the 2023 season. Owen is a 5th-year student from Oklahoma City, and scored 4 times in the 3 exhibition matches. Ragland is also a 5th-year student, from Wichita, Kansas. Ragland has started 39 games in the last 3 years for the Leathernecks.

What's next: The Leathernecks get ready for 2 more in-state matchups next week, as they travel to SIUE on Sep. 12, then host Eastern Illinois on Sep. 16. The Leathernecks then start conference play, hosting Oral Roberts on Sept. 23.
