Omaha ran away with a 3-0 win in a close-fought match

Box Score OMAHA, NE -- After a late loss to Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, Western looked to get back on track in Summit League play when they traveled to Omaha on Saturday night. Unfortunately for the Leathernecks, they were blanked in a 3-0 loss that saw Omaha get the game winner in the 30th minute.

Sophomore forward Liam Gainey returned from injury in Saturday night's clash with the Mavericks, playing his first game since the Leathernecks took on Bradley on September 8th. Gainey nearly scored inside three minutes, but his shot was denied as the sophomore looked to score his first goal of the season.

Each side took four shots a piece within the first eighteen minutes, as both teams were eager to get on the board early. Omaha would be the first to get on the board, as they slotted in a ball that was nearly ruled an own goal, bouncing off of a Western defender as the ball went in.

Omaha would draw a penalty in the 67th minute, and sent Leatherneck keeper Youssou Ouendeno the wrong way to make it 2-0. Ouendeno would finish with three saves on the night. The Mavericks drew a second penalty in the 90th minute, which they would convert and make it 3-0.

The Mavericks would win the shot battle 14-12, and won the shot on target battle 8-6. as Omaha took home a 3-0 win.

Western falls to 0-2-0 on the Summit League season. The Leathernecks will continue Summit League play next week, taking on St. Thomas next Saturday in Macomb.
